It's been a couple years, maybe?, since we lived a pleasant walk away from this park. These days I doubt we would make that walk AND circumambulate the park. But, then again, she continues to surprise me with her indomitable spirit....

Camping
Apparently Matte had a nice vacation; I am SOOOO grateful!!! Her toe isn't TOO swollen, though the disfigurement has spread to the top of the little toe, not just the bottom & side. I'm stoked she is so well!

Just got a call
From him who is watching the Moo.... He told me some surprising things: She "hasn't died on my watch"
The shoe does not fit?!? She in the yard under the bushes?!? The used socks are really stinky?!? She only has one pain pill left?!?
I feel like going to the airport now, so I don't miss my flight--unable to trust her who said she would get me there on time. I need not be anxious over anything, yet my heart is in my throat and tears spring from my eyes. Compassion, please, compassion. Mercy! The more I want it, the more sharply I feel how & when I do fail to GIVE it.
My favorite definition of "sober" is "characterized by thoughtful consideration of others." My favorite definition of "integrity" is "honest to such a degree that one is incapable of being false to a pledge or promise." I do NOT feel that I have exhibited these attributes in relation to my dog this weekend. OUCH!

Very old photo: March 22, 2008. I miss my dog and I am miserable here now without her. I AM SOOOOOOO SORRY I stayed an extra day to do the pictures on my mom's computer--she didn't let me do them, anyway!

Baby Matte
Late 1997, Charlotte, NC, when we lived with the beloved John Kelly (was his house on 35th St?).
In this picture we are sitting on my desk, looking at Otis.
That was back I'm my FILM days! I was shooting a lot of 120/220 then. It would be good to find an old print of Otis--he was Mattie's first friend and her biggest adopted brother. :)

Lost
Having lost my mindfulness of damage on this toe, I failed to notice when the shoe protecting it went missing. I'm the process of looking to locate the shoe, Mattie did walk at least another hundred meters from the time I realized it was gone. Since I failed to locate the shoe--having retraced most the paths we walked--the total "mileage" and terrain the wound experienced remains a mystery. A strong betadine solution dropped into it for a few minutes, a generous dose of pain-reliever antibiotic ointment and a few hours later, this is the view of the "little toe" pad on her right rear foot. God knows I intend to take care of her--God only knows how I manage to fail....
